The Early Days: The National Wrestling Council

Hunter Sabuani debuted in the now-defunct federation of Georgia Championship Wrestling in the fall of 1998, quickly earning success with his brash attitude and high-flying wrestling style. He was the first wrestler to capture the federation's premier championship, the GCW Georgia State Championship, defeating the mammoth Goliath to do so. Sabuani (already at this time linked romantically with Miss Madison) saw even more success as he and his closest friends from the New England Wrestling Coalition (including former Lone Star Wrestling Regional Champion Stagminn, former GCW Georgia State and Southern Heritage Champion Vatch 'The Axeman' Indesson, and multiple-time NWC World and Regional Champion, 'The Sheriff' Damon Hayes) formed the loose-knit stable called The Crew.

On October 24th, 1998, at GCW's first pay-per-view, the Battle of Atlanta, Sabuani defeated then-NWC Champion 'The Moronic' Joshua Lee to capture the National Wrestling Council's highest honor and single-handedly bring the fledgeling GCW notoriety among the Council's federations. Though Sabuani's reign was not lengthly (ending a mere three weeks later in his defeat by 'Sexy' Steve Sire on a night most well-known for the formation of the Upper Echelon), the so-called 'King of Swing' had taken important steps in the legitimization of Georgia Championship Wrestling in a sea of well-known and well-respected federations.

The Formative Years: The Coterie and Beyond

In the late winter of 1998-1999, Sabuani's then-fiancee, Miss Madison (since revealed as the cousin of GCW founder Devon Justice) started to clamor for power in the absence of her cousin, and her actions during Sabuani's match at NWC Across Enemy Lines 2 with Sire and 'The Foundation' Tony Pride led one to question her previously pristine image. Many GCW superstars, including Jerome 'Better Than You' Jenkinsm questioned her committment to her relationship with Hunter.

In a tag team bout featuring Sabuani and Indesson against the Morality Underground Movement, the King of Swing proved all the doubters wrong; just not in the way they expected. He viciously turned on his long-time friend, leaving the Axeman bloodied.

Ensuing weeks saw Sabuani and Madison piece together a faction of their own, featuring such luminaries as 'The Big Man of the Clan' Cassidy O'Hollerin, 'The Impact Player' Colby Fairchild, and Madison's bodyguard, 'The Edgecrusher' Darien Thorsen, the latter of whom made his debut in the falls-count-anywhere-in-Savannah match between Vatch and Sabuani (now calling himself the Raja of Roguishness for the first time).

It was also around this time that Sabuani ran afoul of three of his biggest rivals: Hyuk Suh Kim, Tantalus, and Scorn.
