Infinite Gauntlet
From PTCpedia
The Infinite Gauntlet is an ongoing competition held by Primetime Central. It is currently the highest accolade sanctioned by PTC.
The current Infinite Gauntlet Champion is Curt Cunningham.
Competition
The Infinite Gauntlet works, in nearly every case, as a series. The first step of the series is the Open Invitational, where anyone can compete. Open Invitational rounds are usually not fought for the championship (the exceptions being round 31, which was won by Jason Snow, and the Trash Talk Spectacular when Snow lost the belt to Tchu) and serve to determine the contenders for the next two or three rounds. Therefore, the champion does not necessarily defend every round.
In addition to casual competition, the Infinite Gauntlet provides, as part of its design, a means of entry into things with limited placements that are going on in PTC at the time. For example, winning an amount of consecutive rounds qualified players to compete for Global and Extreme titles (and later the Unified title). A notable example of this was Archibald MacGreggor qualifying for an Extreme Title shot as a free agent, something previously impossible to achieve in PTC. IG also allowed handlers to play for guaranteed spots in GTT5 and GTT6.
One of the Infinite Gauntlet's attractions are the themed rounds, which make the competition interesting by restricting them to a certain format or genre. Aside from this, the Infinite Gauntlet has attracted the most non-PTC winners of any PTC competition, having seven free agent champions so far in its history, more than the winners of every other PTC event and championship put together.
