NC-17 2008 took place on February 4 2008 at University of Phoenix Stadium in Phoenix, Arizona. Attended by over 100,000 fans, it was the largest gate in GCW history at the time. It also set new Pay-Per-View buyrate records for the company at over 3.2 million buys. NC-17 2008 drew immense attention to the company for its enhanced video content, a new innovation for GCW.

Storylines

Headlining NC-17 2008 was the epic showdown between GCW World Champion Jordan White and 2008 Dangerous Games winner LeStatt Knight. Knight, a former two-time champion, had eliminated Andy Murray to win his first battle royal and become the number one contender. White had finally broken through and won the belt by defeating Jay Terror in an ACWF Match at Dangerous Games. White, considered one of the best pure wrestlers in the business, prepared to meet GCW's biggest icon, who had never won the GCW Title at NC-17.

Rounding out the triple main event were matches pitting Murray against Terror, and Vivica J. Valentine against Chris Bagwell. Murray, the fastest rising star of 2008 and the Rampage tournament winner, faced off against former World Champion Terror in an intensely personal fight. Valentine waged war against Bagwell in a brutal I Quit match, which saw a portion of the set destroyed.

At Dangerous Games, Zacharia Taylor had capture the United States Championship, only for the American Dream holder, Garbage Bag Johnny, to cash in hours later and win the title. Bent on regaining his belt, Taylor targeted the undefeated GBJ. GBJ, who had torn through the competition all year, finally suffered his first defeat after an inspired performance by Taylor.

Critical Response

For this event, GCW invested tremendous time and money to attempt to increase its audience. The wrestling world was abuzz in the weeks following NC-17, as the incredible performances were augmented by new video features. The video content in particular received a largely positive response. Though most agreed that the concepts needed refinement, the consensus was that the added bells and whistles enhanced the event and highlighted some of the best matches in GCW history. GCW announced that the features would become standard on all future broadcasts of NC-17.
