The Concept

The attraction of fantasy wrestling has always been the opportunity to create your own character, write for them and compete against others in the hobby for the right to be a champion. If you look past fantasy wrestling, you'll also see millions of people each year playing fantasy sports. Fantasy Football, in particular, is one of the most popular hobbies in the United States of America and probably creates billions of dollars in revenue.

Professional sports have always had a wealth of storylines, drama, personal struggles, inspiring moments and courageous performances. On the flip side of the coin, professional athletes such as Ron Artest, Terrell Owens, Randy Moss can be considered veritable 'heels' of our society seen thru the lens of sports media.

This is what long-time NFW writer Gregg Gethard envisoned for NFW one random day in an IM.

March Madness.

The World Series.

The Super Bowl.

How many billions of people total watch these events mesmerized, captivated and in some cases, on their knees praying for God to bestow victory on their chosen team?

We could hold a draft.

We could have conferences.

We could have an All-Star Week.

We could have PLAYOFFS.

All we needed was something akin to the Lombardi Trophy and Stanley Cup. Something with enough history that any wrestling fan in the fw.com universe would signify with the 'ultimate' prize in wrestling.

God bless Chad Merrit and his midget-loving soul, as he gladly donated the ULTRATITLE from CSWA folklore to the NFW upon hearing the pitch. Now, with our 8-tier trophy...we were ready to start anew. This time we pitched the concept to the best of the best -- Hornet, Shane Southern, Michael Manson, Eli Flair, Eddy Love, Dan Ryan, Joey Melton, Lindsay Troy. These are just a few of the characters with storied legacies came on board during Season One. Not only that, many of fW.com's long-time regulars signed up. There'd be too many names to list, but to say the least, we had some great names pass through this federation over the inaugural Season 1 (2003-2005) and the historic sophomore Season 2 (2005-2007). These four years propelled New Frontier Wrestling to becoming a global legend and icon of this sport "in-story" as well as one of the most dynamic and innovative feds for writers that participate in this hobby. A fed that not only explored the limits with an in-story concept, but also a writing atmosphere that couldn't be seen anywhere else.

Ultratitle Season 1 (to be updated)

The Road to the Ultratitle began in June 2003, with two conferences (North and South) holding a draft lottery. Over the next '16 weeks,' wrestlers would compete against each other over a regular season...where each conference would have 4 wild cards and 2 division winners, all qualifying for an NFL styled single elimination playoffs.

At Wrestlebowl I, early in 2005, Michael Manson defeated Shane Southern to win NFW's inaugural ULTRATITLE Season 1. However, with a convoluted storyline stretching back to the UWA as well as other federations (CSWA, fWo, tsC) -- the season ended with the North and South Conferences folding, a new ownership infrastructure and two new conferences.
