UltraViolence 2010

UltraViolence 2010 was the second Pay-Per-View from PRIME of the year. The event took place at the American Airlines Arena in Dallas, Texas. The event will most likely be known as the conclusion of the Born Again tournament, which saw Vangelus Olsig emerge from a Triple Threat match to win his first PRIME Universal Title.

Background and Promotion

-Coming off the heels of Culture Shock 2010, Jason Snow still reigned supreme as holder of the PRIME Universal Title. However, rumors were confirmed when at the start of ReVolution 221, Devin Shakur came out with the Championship and informed the audience Jason Snow had retired and thus vacated the top prize in the business. Shakur announced a tournament called Born Again, featuring 21 competitors. The unique stipulation for the tournament was if a competitor had wrestled in PRIME prior to the tournament, they were placed in a specific bracket. This stipulation allowed people who never competed in PRIME before to have a direct line of sight to the Universal Championship. The tournament saw PRIME veteran Emilio Rage emerge from the Stalwarts bracket, while in the New Era bracket Castor V. Strife ripped through all competitors. Both men were set to tangle with Olsig in the Main Event of the Pay-Per-View, with the winner of their triple threat match becoming the Universal Champion. Other noteable feuds during the period revolved around banked Championship opportunities from the Dual Halo. Tchu collected the PRIME Intense Championship bounty and defeated Chainz to become the new Champion. His reward however did not come without high risk. Due to an event at Culture Shock, boss Devin Shakur placed a 24/7 rule over Tchu's head, forcing The Inhuman Being to look over his shoulder at every turn. He would end up facing a rising newcomer in Hush at the Pay-Per-View. Boda, with the SOB stable firmly disbanded, sought to make a name for himself on his own merits. However, someone didn't want him to rise without having to face consequences. The Big Bad Boda Daddy received packages and had matches sabotaged up until the Pay-Per-View and was unable to figure out who his mystery assilant was. The final noteable program featured PRIME 5-Star Title holder, Elise Ares, and Garbage Bag Johnny. Johnny received a 5 Star Championship opportunity by pinning Ares during the Dual Halo. The duo didn't have much interaction throughout the arc, but Ares knew her time as champion could be coming to a close, considering the wide talents of GBJ.

Event Summarization

The event took place on June 5th, 2010 at the American Airlines Arena before a sold-out audience of 20,000 people. The opening segment featured Boda arriving in an Expedition with someone he kidnapped. Boda believed the person to be his mystery antagonizer. The first match saw Skylar Montgomery and Shawn Hart squaring off against returning [[Steve Starr] in a Triple Threat match. The battle indicated Starr, who hadn't competed in PRIME for a significant amount of time, didn't have much ring rust. In the end, Starr was able to hit the Starry Nights on Shawn Hart for a pinfall victory. A small segment afterward featured Devin Shakur and Christian Daniels discussing the contents of a box left outside The Boss in Black's locker room. The box contained a hunting knife, a pair of BFF bracelets, and an anvil. The individual who delivered the box was no where to be found, leaving both men perplexed. The battle between Tchu and Hush got off to an early start when The Silent Assassin jumped Tchu in his locker room. Hush dictated the pace for the most part until both men were able to get out from the backstage area toward the main stage and finally toward ringside. Neither competitor got into the ring, and in the end Tchu was able to sneak in a Broken Soul (gutwrench powerbomb) onto the steel stairs and retain his Intense Championship. Another mysterious segment occurred when Matt Mills was in the office of Shakur and Daniels. While Daniels and Mills were playing cards, Shakur decided to listen to some music on his iPod. However, the only song which would play was Metallica's "Better Than You". Shakur, an aficionado of jazz music, was angered by the development and wondered who would be dumb enough to screw with his music system. Boda finally figured out the identity of his attacker, although it was not the individual he kidnapped. The Bastard removed the cloak from the person he kidnapped to find out it was Rusty, a man who helped Boda during his stint in rehab. From the back, Dan Ryan emerged, sending Boda into a frenzy. He begged the big man forward, but got nothing. Ryan wasn't even the person who attacked him. He was only there to introduce the actual person who was the mastermind behind all of Boda's attacks, Lindsay Troy. The crowd erupted for The Queen of the Ring, who hadn't been seen all year. Troy and Boda engaged in a short but brutal back and forth, which saw Boda hit a powerbomb and get aid from Elvis Nixon in the form of a fast count. Troy was defeated, and the source of the fast count was later revealed to be Devin Shakur. After the match, Tchu and Lindsay Troy, longtime friends, had a rather uncomfortable reunion backstage. Tchu seemed to be oblivious of any tension between the two, and took the raincheck from Troy as nothing more than lack of time. The final segment featuring Shakur and Daniels saw Shakur watching the developments of UltraViolence on his television screen. He received a good laugh, before the images changed to random clips from the Home Alone franchise. Shakur reached his breaking point and stormed out to the ring, ready to find out who was bothering him. The next match saw a PRIME record broken. Shakur emerged from the back and demanded to see the person who was making him uncomfortable for the duration of the night. Kevin McCalister's trademark scream blasted from the speakers a few times, before an image appeared. The image wasn't of McCalister, but rather longtime friend turned enemy, Tony Gamble. The song "Better Than You" accompanied Gamble from underneath the ring behind Shakur. The bell rang, giving Gamble incentive to roll Shakur in a small package for the pinfall victory. Officially, the match lasted three seconds. The 5-Star Title match saw Elise Ares looking to defend her Championship against Garbage Bag Johnny. The match was short by 5-Star standards, but nonetheless Ares was unable to come out victorious. Johnny landed a top rope back cracker for the pinfall victory and was able to become the new holder of the 5-Star Title. Just before the Main Event, Shakur and Daniels, feeling slighted by Gamble, decided to make an impact on the match. The duo busted into Emilio Rage's locker room and took The Nicaraguan Nightmare out with a Good Times Painful Memories headkick, assisted by a steel chair. Rage was unable to compete in the match. The attack left Castor V. Strife and Vangelus Olsig to vie for the richest prize in PRIME. Strife displayed incredible all around ability, while Olsig stuck mostly to his high flying background. In the end, experience in the PRIME atmosphere proved to pay dividends as Olsig was able to put Strife away with a Sacrifice and become the new owner of the PRIME Universal Title.

Reception

While the event was sold out, buyrates for the Pay-Per-View were at an all time low for the company. The numbers were not released, but the highest rumored buyrate for the PPV was in the 250,000s. PRIME usually averages about two times that amount for most Pay-Per-Views. The company was thought to lose a considerable amount of money from the event, but has since taken itself out of a nose dive with three solid ReVolutions and Colossus VII is already sold out.
