After sixteen years in Professional Wrestling, there is no one that can compare to "The Buzz" Cal Roberts(Born 4/12/1973). Gaining his nickname from the constant hype or "buzz" that surrounds him in the wrestling world, Roberts has been a force since his debut in late 1993. His brash, cocky attitude may not win him any Humanitarian awards, but in the ring he has yet to find an equal. With an unparalleled drive to succeed, Cal Roberts may very well achieve his goal of being known as the greatest of all-time.

Biographical Information

After his birth in 1973, Cal Roberts was admitted into the care of social services by his parents. Roberts was a playful child but also rather quiet in his first five years. On April 18th, 1978 he was adopted by a grizzled pro-boxer, Jim Kowalski. This was good news to the boy who had always wanted a father. However, Jim was hard on the boy. He always expected the best from him in his athletic pursuits, specifically in the gym and ring. Roberts trained with his father daily, and was being groomed as a boxer. Then on one fateful day he saw the spectacle of what was pro-wrestling on a television set in the gym. The boy immediately made it his goal to become a pro-wrestler, but was scorned by his father to stay away from something he could not handle.

On March 17th, 1988, after coming home from school, Calvin would walk into his adopted father's gym to find Jim dead in his office. Not knowing what else to do, Calvin took up street fighting, amateur boxing, and anything else he could do to support himself. Jim had not left the gym to anyone, and it was demolished within the next year. Calvin's heart died a little the day when his father had passed, and when the gym was torn down, it died a little more.

Then one day on March 24th, 1993, Calvin discovered a pro-wrestling school. He would train at 'Sully's Slam Fest Gym' for the next 6 months before making his pro-debut as 'The Buzz' Cal Roberts. He quickly gained notoriety for being a vicious competitor in the ring. Now that he was making a good amount of money by wrestling up to seven days a week on the independent circuit, The Buzz began to seek something else...women. One was not enough, however. He went after anything and everything that was beautiful. However, he made it a habit to be gone before the next morning to avoid any emotional attachment.

He continued his career until 1998 when he began to get a few big breaks including some work for two national US promotions(WRF and ECFED), and for Japan. His name now meant something more. When someone said the name 'The Buzz', tickets were about to be sold. Since then he continued to work in hopes of finally landing a spot in the top promotion, PCW. PCW would eventually shut down, and Buzz was content with independent work until he received a call in early November. The call was from PCW officials offering him a spot in the revival of PCW. By now 'The Buzz' Cal Roberts was definitely ready to handle Primetime, but could Primetime handle him?

As it would turn out 'The Buzz' Cal Roberts was a huge part of PCW during its revival, and developed strong rivalries with both Skylar Green and Inphino Blitz. He even managed to hold the PCW World Title for a week after only seven weeks in the promotion. No small feat by any means. Now he was going for the belt once again after vacating it, but was going to attempt to earn it himself. However, he was becoming sidetracked by the PCW Continental Champion, Skitzo. Roberts would go on to reach the semi-finals of the FACE to FACE tournament in PCW and his goal of becoming a two-time champion was within his grasps. However, the fed closed its doors after the current booker stepped down, leaving the promotion with no one to run it. After a short uneventful run in PRIME and a signed contract with a promotion that was unable to get off the ground, Cal Roberts was very skeptical about the business. However, a week after becoming a free agent 'The Buzz' Cal Roberts was involved in a major car accident. During this accident, his right fibula was fractured and he suffered various other bumps and bruises.

Cal Roberts made his return to the ring several months later noticeably lighter at 250 lbs, having leaned down while rehabbing his injury. He was now a part of Ring Revolution, a regional Canadian promotion with a fantastic business plan to go national and the roster to do it. Roberts work was critically acclaimed by a few in the business, but unfortunately this promotion was not meant to be. Once again Roberts found himself on the verge of reaching his peak, with nowhere to ply his craft.

Several months later, Cal Roberts signed a lucrative short-term contract to wrestle Blake Gray at an upcoming nBW pay-per-view. He was required to promote his appearance on several of the promotion's tv and house shows. The two would end up having a short but heated rivalry, due to their respective opinions on who was truly the greatest wrestler in the world. The rivalry would culminate in an ultimate submission match that lasted nearly an hour, ending with Blake Gray exploiting the previously injured right leg of Cal Roberts, forcing Roberts to tap out for the first time in his career and clinching the win. Disgusted with himself, Roberts unofficially retired. He turned down several offers for lucrative deals with various promotions. It wasn't until late 2008 that Cal Roberts would begin to work tours in Japan and make several one-shot appearances for the independent promotion PWX, resuming his Ring Revoution and PRIME rivalry with Michael Norcia.

During his sabbatical away from the rigors of full-time wrestling, Roberts has sought out the very best in Pro-Wrestling, Boxing, and Mixed-Martial Arts to perfect his own style into a fighting system known only as CRITICAL.BATTLE.ART. With this style Roberts plans on continuing his goal towards wrestling supremacy as he enters Memphis Pro.

Alternate Version(Legacy of Champions)

In LoC, Cal Roberts has undergone a massive change of heart. While still the determined legend who strives for excellence at every turn. He is now a kinder and gentler individual outside of the ring. After undergoing a massive nationwide tour entitled "The Buzz Across America", Cal Roberts has been embraced by the many fans he's scorned over the years. However, his peers seem to be skeptical over whether the change is heartfelt. Only time will tell whether or not Cal Roberts is sincere, or just a very talented actor.

CRITICAL.BATTLE.ART

C.B.A could best be described as Cal Robert's journey through the king of sports, Pro-Wrestling. He undergoes a vigorous training regimen six days a week, consisting of sparring, weight lifting, cardiovascular training, meditation, and research of past and present greats in the ring. Cal Roberts sparring sessions consist of bringing in the top fighters from various disciplines such as; Pro-Wrestling, Boxing, Mixed Martial Arts, Judo, Muay Thai, and occasionally others. Cal Roberts uses periodization in his weight lifting routine to keep from hitting plateaus. He trains for strength, speed, and aesthetics throughout the year. One of Cal Roberts greatest strengths has been his stamina, which he focuses on year round to keep him at the very top of his game. Cal Roberts is also known for his cunning in-ring strategies, and ability to capitalize on mistakes of even the most experienced of opponents. He uses his free time away from training to keep up on all the latest top names in the business, always looking for strengths and weaknesses. He goes out of his way to have a strategy to beat every wrestler he may come across well in advance. He may also view older footage to find little tricks that may have been lost over time. The meditation is a trick Cal Roberts employs before and after a training session to bring himself a sense of inner-peace. He began to use this technique after his sabbatical from the ring in late 2005. All of these techniques are just a preview of what CRITICAL.BATTLE.ART is all about.
